About Our Specialist Skin Services

Be assured, our GPXtra doctors have had to undergo additional extensive training to deliver these specialist treatments.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy or Cryosurgery is a medical grade freezing procedure to remove unwanted skin lesions. GPXtra uses an industry leading pen-like device to provide millimetre precision treatment. It works by rapid freezing of the skin compliant using nitrous oxide to -64 oC. This causes cryonecrosis and treatment of the skin problem but in addition; this temperature is safer for the surrounding healthy skin compared to cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen. This treatment option is needle and scalpel free. It leaves minimal scarring compared to use of a scalpel.

We offer care to Adults and Children.

Common skin lesions treated: Skin Tags / Acrochordons, Seborrhoeic Keratosis, Molluscum Contagiosum, Sun Spots, Age spots, Campbell de Morgan spots, Actinic Keratosis.

Areas treated: Face including around the eyes, Arms, Hands, Legs and feet (some lesions on the shin are not appropriate for treatment).

Skin Cancer Check With Dermoscopy

GPXtra doctors use a specialist medical skin magnifier called a dermatoscope. Our dermoscopy-trained GPs are able to analyse your skin in significantly more detail to check for signs (features) of potentially life- threatening skin cancers. This can help with early identification of skin cancer to get you the treatment you may need rapidly.

GPXtra is in partnership with dermatologists and plastic surgeons for appropriate rapid treatment of your mole if found to dermascopic patterns of cancer. We also support you by informing your NHS GP to add to your health record. If you want to see a plastic surgeon for rapid removal; we offer a free and complimentary referral letter so that your treatment is not delayed. Do not wait, check the moles you are worried about by booking today.

Advanced Electrolysis

Advanced electrolysis is a precise, minimally invasive technique used to reduce or remove unwanted superficial skin blemishes. The technique involves using controlled electrical current through a very fine sterile probe. This generates heat within the targeted tissue while limiting damage to the surrounding skin. Depending on the blemish, the tissue is cauterised, coagulated or dehydrated so it can shrink, form a small crust and naturally heal or fall away. This technique leaves minimal scarring compared to use of a scalpel.

At GPXtra, we use this technique to treat skin tags, milia, thread veins, cherry angiomas, seborrhoeic keratoses, dermatosis papulosa nigra and as an alterative treatment for resistive warts. Treatment is tailored to the blemish's type, size, location and the client's skin.

Areas treated: Face including around the eyes, Arms, Hands, Legs and feet (some lesions on the shin are not appropriate for treatment).

A consultation is essential because some growths - particularly moles or lesions that are new, changing, bleeding or unusual - require medical assessment by our doctors before cosmetic treatment. Book an online consultation to receive a personalised assessment and treatment plan.

Please note: This technique is not suitable for clients with electrical implants or pacemakers, poorly controlled diabetes, active skin disease or a tendency toward keloid scarring.

Advanced Electrolysis

Electrolysis For Permanent Hair Removal

Electrolysis is the only established method of permanent hair removal, treating individual hairs by destroying the hair follicle at the point of treatment. Unlike laser hair reduction, which targets pigment in the hair and is less effective on lighter hair; electrolysis is suitable for all skin types and hair colours, including white, grey, blonde and red hair.

How does it work? A very fine sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle and a controlled electrical current is delivered to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. The treated hair is then gently removed and the follicle heals naturally.

Electrolysis can be used for unwanted facial, body hair (typically tummy areas) and armpits. It is particularly useful for small or stubborn areas and for hairs that remain after laser treatment. Electrolysis can be especially beneficial for women experiencing hirsutism associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). While it does not treat the underlying hormonal cause, it provides a permanent treatment option for individual unwanted hairs alongside appropriate medical management.

A consultation is recommended to assess the pattern and cause of hair growth and develop a personalised treatment plan. New, sudden or excessive hair growth may require medical assessment to identify any underlying hormonal or other health conditions.

Please note: Treatment is not suitable for everyone. Suitability will be assessed during your consultation, particularly where there is active skin disease, a tendency towards keloid scarring or medical conditions or medications that may affect healing. We do not advice this method for those with a pacemaker or electrical implant.
