Electrolysis is the only established method of permanent hair removal, treating individual hairs by destroying the hair follicle at the point of treatment. Unlike laser hair reduction, which targets pigment in the hair and is less effective on lighter hair; electrolysis is suitable for all skin types and hair colours, including white, grey, blonde and red hair.

How does it work? A very fine sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle and a controlled electrical current is delivered to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. The treated hair is then gently removed and the follicle heals naturally.

Electrolysis can be used for unwanted facial, body hair (typically tummy areas) and armpits. It is particularly useful for small or stubborn areas and for hairs that remain after laser treatment.

Electrolysis can be especially beneficial for women experiencing hirsutism associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). While it does not treat the underlying hormonal cause, it provides a permanent treatment option for individual unwanted hairs alongside appropriate medical management.
